Black people, who invented hip-hop, jazz, and rock and roll, have long been tastemakers of American cool. In many ways, fashion, music, and slang are dictated by black people no matter how little credit they get for it..
In fact:
āOur research shows that black consumer choices have a ācool factorā that has created a halo effect, influencing not just consumers of color but the mainstream as well,ā said Cheryl Grace, senior vice president of U.S. Strategic Community Alliances and Consumer Engagement, Nielsen.
Thus, presumably, if you want to be cool and sell records, you ought to start acting black. In fact, itās great if youāre not black and act black because you get the benefits of being cool without the baggage and limitations of being subjected to racism.
Its what the Kardashians, Iggy, Justin Bieber, Ariana, and alot of other celebrities do in order to rise in popularity as well as be accepted into the black community.
Ā
Grandeās music is largely influenced by hip-hop and R&B, meaning that in order to build a fanbase, she needs to court listeners (ahem, black folk) with those musical preferences.
Grande, who is quick to shut down any perceptions about her ethnicity being anything but Italian. Most people presume Grande is Latinx, not necessarily black, when mistaking her race, but I am here to tell you,Ā most Latinos are part black, sis.Ā
Thus, for years, Latinx women have been sounding the alarm: Grande is doing brown face. Look at her tan!! Look at how she speaks! Look at her music!
The point is: Most of us donāt get to pick and choose which parts of blackness we get to have ā only white folks seem to have that luxury. And we need to give her the SAME ENERGY we give the kardashians.
For the longest time I thought she was Latina lmao
Damn, thought she was Latina ..smh
For a while I legitimately thought she was Latina. This bitch is white. WHITE. Sheās profiting off brown face to appear racially ambiguous. Sheās appealing to her cultural fan base. Sis needs to be called out more
Yup! At my job as a mental health counselor where we assess people, if we start detecting hints of what we think might be ADHD, itās actually something my supervisor trained me to do, to just askĀ āSo when that sort of thing happens, do you ever drink coffee or soda to calm down?ā orĀ āDoes coffee actually help you wake up, or does it just not do anything?ā because itās such a commonly known fact about ADHD for people in the mental health field.
One of the prevailing theories explaining ADHD is that itās caused by a lack of certain neurotransmitters, specifically norepinephrine and serotonin.Ā Everybody has a background level of these neurotransmitters, and when they see or do something novel or interesting, those neurotransmitters increase, and then decrease back down to normal levels.Ā Because people with ADHD have less of these than they should, they are constantly looking for something new and interesting to give them that jolt back to normal levels.Ā Thatās why theyāre so easily distracted and why they hyperfocus on things that interest them.
Stimulant drugs, like caffeine, cause your brain to make more of those neurotransmitters.Ā So while neurotypical people might get a buzz off caffeine, people with ADHD just get bumped up closer to normal levels, and so, if anything, feel calmer.Ā Thatās why they prescribe what are basically amphetamines as treatment for ADHD and why ADHD meds are so bad for people who donāt have ADHD.
